Volunteering at St. Therese
At Saint Therese School we rely on and appreciate the support of our parents in the various activities at our school. God has given you precious gifts and we hope that you will consider volunteering your time and talents.
Here's how you can help:
- Library Aide - Assists the children using the library books and helps in book cataloging and care. Library days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
- Teacher Aide - Assists the teacher in such activities as preparing materials, operating AV equipment, decorating bulletin boards, etc.
- Lunch and Playground Duty - Supervises the children during lunch and on the playground along with the assigned teacher. Hours are from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
Other ways in which you may volunteer your time include becoming a Class Parent; getting involved with our Home and School fundraisers such as the Tricky Tray and the annual Golf Outing; helping to organize our Family Fun nights; or working on one of our other committees.
Every volunteer working with children under the age of 16 must have completed the requirements of the Diocesan Policy, Protecting God's Children, in order to volunteer at school. All forms can be downloaded and printed from the parish website at www.stthereseroxbury.org. The requirements include the following:
A) To be familiar with the Revised Diocesan Policy on Sexual Abuse and sign the Revised Statement for the Code of Pastoral Conduct.
B) To attend a workshop entitled Protecting God's Children. You can register for this workshop by logging on to www.virtus.org and clicking on registration.
C) A criminal background check completed online by the rectory done through Sterling Infosystems, Inc.
This is not an optional policy, which a parish can choose to participate in or not. It is a requirement of the Diocese of Paterson that every volunteer and employee partake in the 3-fold policy listed above.
Thank you for considering to become a volunteer. Through your support and generosity we are able to pool our collective talents and help continue to make St. Therese School a very special place to be.
Dear STS Families,
The word "stewardship" refers to the Catholic approach to the gifts that God has bestowed upon us. Stewardship is living out a commitment to be Christ -centered rather than self-centered. We have the opportunity to share our gifts of time, talent and treasure by serving our school, our parish and our community and in turn, make our world a better place. This program is not just about fundraising-it's about working together to make our school the best it can be. And to teach our children, by example, to serve as Jesus served. We appreciate your service and hope this booklet will assist you in your efforts.
Our goal for the STS Stewardship Program is for every family to log at least 20 hours of service to the school.
Please take a look at the list of opportunities to see what fits with your interests and schedule. Then, fill out the Volunteer Application Form so we can track our volunteer efforts. Thank you for being involved in the life of St. Therese School and for your willingness to share your time, talent and treasure. We look forward to working with you to promote the value of service to our students, staff, parishioners and community through your volunteer efforts.
Thank you for your commitment to our school!
